How to Apply for Bursaries

ASTTBC/FEAT bursaries are available from two sources. The following information applies only to the bursaries that are available directly from FEAT.

(Students in eligible technology programs at BCIT, Camosun College, Kwantlen University College, Okanagan College, Thompson Rivers University, and Vancouver Community College should also check with the Awards Office of their college or their instructors about ASTTBC/FEAT bursaries that are awarded by the colleges).

ASTTBC Bursary for a High School Student
who is a Child/Grandchild of an ASTTBC Member

One $1,000 bursary is offered each year to a Grade 12 student. To apply, submit the following:

  1. Your name, address and other contact information
  2. Name and registrant number of your parent/grandparent who is an ASTTBC member
  3. Name of your high school and confirmation you are in final year of high school.
  4. Recent course marks
  5. ASTTBC and/or CTAB accredited technology program and institute or college you plan to attend
  6. A brief statement on your career goals (max 100 words)
  7. Optional - any community involvement; other interests; financial constraints; or references you may wish to provide that will help the selection committee get to know you better.

Note: The recipient of this ASTTBC/FEAT bursary will be notified by September, however the bursary cheque is only issued after proof of enrollment in an eligible technology program is received.

ASTTBC Wade Wicks Memorial Bursary

One $1,000 bursary is offered each year. This bursary was established by Susan and Robert Stitt in memory of Susan’s brother, Wade Wicks, who died in 1984 at the age of 24. Wade had a love of nature and an appreciation of technology. With a particular interest in robotics and a caring concern for the environment, Wade was a young man ahead of his time. His memory lives on, as the Wade Wicks Memorial Bursary helps technology students now and in the future.

Applicants must be enrolled in (or about to enroll in) an ASTTBC and/or CTAB accredited applied science technology program at BCIT or any college in British Columbia. Applicants and recipients may apply in more than one year. Eligible students may apply directly, or instructors or others may apply on the student’s behalf.

To apply, submit the following:

  1. Your name, address and other contact information
  2. Proof of enrollment in eligible technology program (photocopy of registration receipt or similar documentation)
  3. Recent course marks
  4. A brief statement of your goals (max 350 words)
  5. Optional - any community involvement; other interests; financial constraints; or references you may wish to provide that will help the selection committee get to know you better.

ASTTBC/FortisBC First Nations Bursaries

FortisBC in partnership with FEAT and ASTTBC are pleased to present the FortisBC First Nations bursaries. In total, there are up to three bursaries that will be awarded to a First Nations student pursuing a career in applied science or engineering technology at one of BC’s technical institutes or colleges.

Eligibility & Criteria

First Nations resident of BC who is a full-time student enrolled in any technology program accredited by ASTTBC and/or CTAB.  Bursary selection will be based on a written statement on career goals, community involvement and financial need.

To apply, submit the following:

  1. Name, address and other contact information
  2. Proof of enrollment in eligible technology program (photocopy of registration receipt or similar documentation)
  3. Recent course marks
  4. A brief statement on your career goals (max 100 words)
  5. Community involvement (max 100 words)
  6. Financial need (outline any financial obligations such as student loans or family responsibilities. Detailed financial statements are NOT required.)
  7. References/Resume (attach any letters of reference and/or your resume that will assist the selection committee with getting to know you).

ASTTBC/TD Insurance Technology Bursaries

TD Insurance is the affinity partner with ASTTBC for home insurance at group rates. In recognition of the long-standing working relationship between the two organizations, TD Insurance is supporting a new bursary program to assist tomorrow's technology professionals.

Three bursaries, each valued at $1,000 will be granted to chosen applicants from ASTTBC and/or CTAB accredited technology programs at British Columbia colleges and institutes. The ASTTBC/TD Insurance Technology Bursaries are awarded through ASTTBC's charitable foundation, the Foundation for Education & Advancement in Technology.

Eligibility & Criteria

First or second year students in technology programs at BCIT and BC colleges that are accredited by ASTTBC and/or CTAB are eligible. Bursary selection will be based on educational studies, community involvement, financial need, a written statement on career goals and the applicant resume.

BC Hydro Aboriginal Scholarships for Technology Students

BC Hydro offers scholarships to qualifying Aboriginal students in BC to attract students pursuing education in technology or engineering.

Applications are due April 15, 2012.  For full details and application form.

First Nations Careers Council (FNCC) Chair Bill Baglot is leading a group of ASTTBC members who are reaching out to employers and others to encourage their support as ASTTBC / FNCC works to enhance technology careers with First Nations.

"ASTTBC supports BC Hydro's commitment to attract Aboriginal students to careers in technology," says Executive Director John Leech, AScT CAE.  FNCC was launched by ASTTBC in 2008 to help promote technology education and careers with Aboriginal people and enhance the application of technology in Aboriginal communities.
